About the Scholarship

Swinburne University of Technology has received funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) to establish and operate the ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Future Digital Manufacturing (DMH) over five years, in collaboration with partner universities and industry partners.

DMH is at the forefront of transforming Australian manufacturing by advancing cutting-edge digital technologies powered by AI and IoT. Our mission is to enhance productivity, resilience, and competitiveness through innovative approaches to production prediction, optimisation, and integration. We work closely with industry to co-create scalable digital manufacturing solutions on an open platform, enabling the digital representation of complex systems and delivering predictive insights for real-time improvements.

DMH invites outstanding candidates to apply for an exciting PhD position on AI and Digital Twins for manufacturing. This PhD research will be undertaken in partnership with Krueger Transport Equipment Pty Ltd , a leader in innovative trailer design, as part of the ARC Research Hub on Future Digital Manufacturing. The research will focus on developing AI and Digital Twin-based techniques to improve product consistency and related manufacturing efficiency.

This PhD Scholarship is supported by Swinburne University and Krueger Transport Equipment Pty Ltd and located in the School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.

The PhD scholarship is available for a highly motivated and competitive candidate enrolled in a PhD program to undertake research that supports the research agenda of the project.

About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with Honours (First Class Honours, average grade 80–100) and/or a Research Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field.
  • Relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Eligibility to meet the entry requirements for the relevant Higher Degree by Research program at Swinburne University of Technology.
  • The scholarship is contingent upon the candidate enrolling in the Doctor of Philosophy program within the School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.
  • The capacity to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative manner.
  • Problem solving and organisational capacities with the ability to manage task deadlines.
